Some Highlights for CEC 2012
Our two-day conference will be going back to the East
Convention Centre in downtown Vancouver. Our Opening
Keynote speaker is Jack Jezreel.
He currently serves as the executive director and founder of
JustFaith Ministries, an organization that develops
faith formation programs emphasizing the Gospel message of
peace and justice, Catholic social teaching and the
intersection of faith and action. Jack invites us, as
Catholic educators, to become agents of God’s compassion and
healing in a wounded world. How the Good News of Jesus calls
us and our school communities to act upon God’s vision of
justice and reconciliation for the poor and vulnerable. Jack
holds a Master of Divinity degree from the University of
Notre Dame and has worked in parish ministry for more than
20 years. In March, Jack was the Saturday Morning Keynote at
the LA Congress. His presentation “Gathered and Sent:
Saints, Prophets and Martyrs on a Mission” was well
received by all in attendance.
Our Closing Keynote speaker Mike Patin
uses energy, humour and stories to affirm the goodness of
God's presence among us while inviting others (and himself)
to take the "next step" in our journey with God. Mike has
worked with teenagers and adults in a variety of settings
since 1984. He has experience in the high school setting
(six years), and thirteen years in diocesan youth ministry.
Since 2003, he has worked full time as a speaker and “faith
horticulturist.” Mike holds a Masters degree in Pastoral
Studies from Loyola University of the South in New Orleans.
He also has received a Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies
from the Centre for Ministry Development and a Certificate
of Advanced Studies in Pastoral Life and Administration from
Loyola University.
On each of the two days there will be various
opportunities to choose from among a diverse selection of
speakers who will speak on a wide range of topics: Susan
Close on “Balancing Brain Activity: a 21st Century Pathway
to Powerful Learning”, Mark Hart – the Bible ‘Geek’, Bruce
Brown from Proactive Coaching who will speak on ethics and
sports, Tom Schimmer and the “AFL: 10 Things That Matter?”…
